About the Elephants in Oudtshoorn
Our 3 baby African Elephants in Oudtshoorn, Bulelo, Jabari and Malaika, was rescued in the Kruger National park after their parents have been killed. With the help of the Knysna Elephant Park, they were brought to Knysna, where they raised them from about 2 months old. When they were about 4 years old, we brought them to Oudtshoorn where they have been with us for the last 6 years.
We are situated inside the Buffelsdrift Game Lodge on the Cango Caves Road, just outside of Oudtshoorn in South Africa. Our surrounding area is known as the Klein Karoo which is seen as a semi desert area.
When visiting the Oudtshoorn Elephant Company, you can stay at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge. They provide accommodation in the form of luxury tents either on the edge of their 5ha waterhole or a few meters away from the waterhole. At Buffelsdrift Game Lodge you can view a variety of game when going on a Bush Safari including; Buffalo, Giraffe, Hippo, Nyala, Kudu, Waterbuck, Wildebeest, Rhino, Springbuck, Eland and many different bird species.
If you are not coming to Oudtshoorn but visiting the Knysna area, we can highly recommend our partners Knysna Elephant Park.
We do different activities with our elephants. Visitors can feed our elephants, walk with our elephants or even do a elephant brushing experience. During the feeding our guests also get the chance to interact with our elephants.
We train with our elephants every morning. The elephants enjoy learning new skills and ways to communicate. This is also such a gratifying experience for us as trainers and elephant guides, it is almost like they are our own pets which we love and care for.
